Dog Costumes Or A Dog Dress

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

As Halloween nears, many owners are searching the pet boutiques and web dog clothes stores for costumes and other spooky accessories. Maybe they’re taking their furry best friend to a party or out trick-or-treating. Perhaps the canine will be the main attraction at a haunted house. Whatever the case, dog costumes serve many fun functions, but some pet owners may not want to spend the extra money on another piece of clothing. If you are a pet parent in this situation and you have a baby girl pooch that owns a dog dress, you may not have to buy the costume. Many dog dresses, whether for a big doggie or little princess pooch, work well for all seasons, including Halloween.

A dog dress with an elegant design and color of fabric can pass for an outfit at any holiday, even Halloween or Christmas. For example, a nice purple velvet dress with faux pearls is great for pretending to be the belle of the ball on Halloween or simply looking elegant at a Christmas party. It’s also great for dressy events any time of year, like a dog birthday party. Even a big dog dress looks adorable, and it shows off the feminine side of your not so little baby. So it doesn’t matter if you have a Chihuahua or a Labrador, she can have a dress or gown that she will look great in. Moreover, your doggie’s dress can double for a costume, so you can pamper your pet and make your wallet feel much better.

Dog Clothes-Let Dogs Be Dogs

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Many dog owners love to dress up their little pooches in small dog clothes, and we’re no exception. Our Chihuahuas, Sox and Bruiser, have just as many small dog clothes and small dog sweaters as any other pampered pup. Dressing up little dogs can have a very important function, especially in the harsh cold of winter. Dog booties can protect paws from rock salt and collections of ice in between toes. Small dog sweaters and dog coats protect thin coated breeds form losing too much heat to the freezing wind and ward off frost bite. They also help small dogs in warmer climates that stay inside very air conditioned houses. Having the right small dog clothes is an important step in keeping your little one safe and warm through winter.

Even with the functions small dog clothing serves, there is a point where dressing up your dogs can go too far. Putting a dog costume on them one night for a Halloween or Christmas party is fine, but putting dog clothes and booties on them everyday can be detrimental. When the weather isn’t cold, dog clothes can lead to overheating, and the excessive bootie wear can soften the natural calluses on a dog’s paws. Softened paws become sore easily and are more susceptible to damage.

We tend to project human status onto our dogs, but sometimes it’s best to just let dogs be dogs.
